Myrtle Beach Speedway welcomes the Stars of racing for our 2nd Annual NASCAR Night.
Thursday May 9th will be the 2nd Annual NASCAR Night at Myrtle Beach Speedway.
Drivers from the Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series will be on hand to take in a full night of short track action and participate in a celebrity race and greet the fans at Myrtle Beach Speedway. Drivers scheduled to attend include Michael Waltrip, Denny Hamlin, Mike Wallace, Darryl Wallace, Jayson White, Brian Scott and Clint Boyer. TV Personalities from Fox, Speed and ESPN will be on hand to partake in the evening’s events.
“Last year as we opened recently renovated Myrtle Beach Speedway we wanted to take advantage of the close proximity to Darlington Raceway by inviting some of our friends from the NASCAR community to pay a visit to this historic track. Myrtle Beach Speedway Open House event set for Saturday May 4th:
Saturday May 4th will officially usher in the new season of NASCAR racing at the famed Myrtle Beach Speedway with an Open House event free to the public with Gates opening at 5pm locally. A complete night of racing including the NASCAR Whelen All-American Late Model Series and the season debut of our SuperTruck division will highlight the night. The Victory Junction Kangaroo Express Playground will host activities and games for children of all ages.
“2012 was a great year for us and we wanted to build a special Open House event to kick off 2013 and show off the work that went into our phase 2 renovations. By making our facility completely fan friendly we wanted to open the track to area residents and tourists to highlight our second full year of ownership. The Myrtle Beach Speedway, originally named Rambi Raceway, was built in 1958 and is located at off of Highway 501 in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. The speedway is a semi-banked asphalt oval track that spans 0.538 miles. The NASCAR, sanctioned, Myrtle Beach 400 is set for March 22nd to make up for the postponed event from November 18th of last year. It is now a part of a big double header weekend of racing. Saturday March 23rd will see four classes of racing that will join the South East Limited Late Models racing 100 laps and the 250 Lap NASCAR Late Model race racing Friday afternoon.
NASCAR “Hall of Fame” member David Pearson was scheduled to be the Grand Marshall last November. But, during the off season David became ill and won’t be able to return. His friend and fellow racer from Spartanburg county South Carolina will take his place. James Harvey Hylton of Inman, SC, who has been behind the wheel of race cars, will celebrate a half century of racing this year and has announced his retirement. James Hylton has won at Talladega and Richmond in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, he also won NASCAR Rookie of the Year and finished second in a Cup Championship chase during his career. Bob Lutz, owner of the speedway said “We welcome a man who raced with all of the legends of the sport. It is an honor to have him visit us and be our Grand Marshall. I can just imagine the tails and stories he’ll be able to share with the fans and his fellow racers”. Hylton who is seventy-eight years old has for the last several years been a mentor to many younger drivers and is still active in the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) as a driver.
The Myrtle Beach 400 feature NASCAR Late Model Stock car race will pay $10,000.00 to win and feature a field of 40 plus cars, with best late model drivers in the nation. Support divisions for the two day weekend of racing will be South East Limited Late Models Pro and Challenger divisions and the newly created Mini-Mayhem division made up of Mini-Stock four cylinder cars from the Carolinas and Virginia.
