The NASCAR, sanctioned, Myrtle Beach 400 is set for March 22nd to make up for the postponed event from November 18th of last year.  It is now a part of a big double header weekend of racing.  Saturday March 23rd will see four classes of racing that will join the South East Limited Late Models racing 100 laps and the 250 Lap NASCAR Late Model race racing Friday afternoon.

NASCAR “Hall of Fame” member David Pearson was scheduled to be the Grand Marshall last November.  But, during the off season David became ill and won’t be able to return. His friend and fellow racer from Spartanburg county South Carolina will take his place.  James Harvey Hylton of Inman, SC, who has been behind the wheel of race cars, will celebrate a half century of racing this year and has announced his retirement.  James Hylton has won at Talladega and Richmond in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, he also won NASCAR Rookie of the Year and finished second in a Cup Championship chase during his career.  Bob Lutz, owner of the speedway said “We welcome a man who raced with all of the legends of the sport.  It is an honor to have him visit us and be our Grand Marshall.  I can just imagine the tails and stories he’ll be able to share with the fans and his fellow racers”.  Hylton who is seventy-eight years old has for the last several years been a mentor to many younger drivers and is still active in the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) as a driver.

The Myrtle Beach 400 feature NASCAR Late Model Stock car race will pay $10,000.00 to win and feature a field of 40 plus cars, with best late model drivers in the nation.  Support divisions for the two day weekend of racing will be South East Limited Late Models Pro and Challenger divisions and the newly created Mini-Mayhem division made up of Mini-Stock four cylinder cars from the Carolinas and Virginia.
