Winners Keep Rolling at Myrtle Beach Speedway

By Bobi Summers, Track Announcer  April 9th, 2005

NASCAR WEEKLY RACING SERIES LATE MODEL STOCK: Jamey Lee knows how to get around the Myrtle Beach Speedway just fine. He’s spent the past four years chasing a championship, picking off a win or two and always finishing in the top-5 in the season long point battles. Lee spent 75 laps in front to lead lap-to-lap enroute to his 2nd win in a row, retaining the top spot in points, and possibly that championship that he so longs for. ? Two in a row sounds so much easier than it was, said Lee in victory lane. ? I got to take it easy early in the race, but Greg (Hardee), I must congratulate him, and he made me work the late laps to earn this one. I?m proud of this small team we have here, crew chief Pete Holtz, my Dad, L & M Frame-works, Woody?s Cycle Shop, and support from my wife and family (Jamey & wife expecting in November).Greg Hardee in 2nd & Shannon Jordan in 3rd had their best Late Model finishes to date. Brent Brinson and Josh Smathers (his top finish also) were top-5. Lee has point lead by 8 over Hardee, Jordan & Brinson are 14 behind in a tie for 3rd, with 2003 champion Rick Smith 5th.

LATE MODEL SUPER TRUCKS: Clay Thomas has a pretty sweet deal with Brewer Racing. He just has to show up and drive. That’s it. When he showed up to view the 2005 edition of his race truck, he found it to be yellow. That’s o.k., too, says Thomas, as he took an outside pole start to propel his truck to a 2nd win in as many races. That’s the hardest thing I’ve done in 49 years other than marry my wife?, said a happy Thomas, surrounded by Brewer Teammates and family. I give Michael (Elliott) a hard time about being a hard-head, rough and all- he’s a clean driver and proved it, these cats I race with, the 6 Team and the 1 Team, everybody around us. I wish to thank the Brewer family, RBI (Ron Barfield Incorporated), we had a 4th place truck, my team worked on it so much, yellow works?! Elliott was 2nd by a bumper (or less), with 4-time and defending champion Jimmy Herrington (6 team) & Barry Andrews (1 team) in as close a finish for 3rd & 4th. 2003 Rookie of the year Brian Blackwell was 5th. Clay leads points by 6 over Herrington, by 10 over Andrews & Elliott (tied for 3rd), and by 16 over Wade Skipper in 5th. Trucks run again on April 22nd.

KARTTRAX CHARGER CHALLENGE: Neil Cox came out of semi retirement last season to help Buddy Rhodes get his car into victory lane. It gave both new directions in racing, and continued as Cox took his Ward’s Body Shop entry into victory lane for their 1st win of 2005. ? I want to thank God for a safe race, for nobody hurt, said Cox. ? We’re having a good time. We drew a good set of tires tonight, last week we had a bad set. Everybody will be gunning for us next week; hopefully we’ll all get a good set of tires. Like to Thank Buddy (Rhodes) and Mickey Steele for their support. Robbie Mew matched best finish with 2nd, last Week’s winner Ron Miller was 3rd. Sam Scarpelli had best ever finish at Myrtle Beach with 4th, Tony Powell had worst finish since last July with a 5th. Miller leads points by 2 over Cox, by 6 over Mew & Powell (tie For 3rd), and by 8 over Powell.

STREET STOCK: Defending 2-time series champion Randall Roberts took last weeks 2nd place finish as a Practice session, using knowledge gained to make the adjustments for this week, and his 3rd championship Run. Roberts returned to win the heat race, and the main event, for his 1st win of 2005. Mark Hale was a factor early until mechanical failure sidelined him. We had her hooked up tonight, said Roberts. These Cars are hard to work with; I’d like to thank Big-Un’s Auto Sales for their support. Without them we could not be here. Tommy Poole, 2003 champion Dean Cumbee, Kent Bellamy & Michael Jordan (in 1st car race) were top 5 finishers. Roberts leads points by 6 over Poole, & by 12 over Kent Bellamy.

MINI STOCK: Adam Fulford has taken knowledge gained from racing with his dad & brothers, forging a Team that with 3 entries can regularly visit victory lane. Adam graciously put others ahead of himself when It comes to taking credit, but it is his car that is It right now. He not only won last week’s opener, but led each lap to capture win #2 of 2005. ? I’d like to thank the Lord and my family, my wife, children, & my grandparents in the stands, said Adam. Woody’s Game Room, Fullwood’s Towing & Service help me, too. Defending 3-time series champion Dub Fulford, Ronnie Campbell, Mark Evans & Bailey Miles finished top 5. Adam leads points by 8 over his dad, Dub, by 12 over Campbell, & by 16 over Evans.
